Jersey StarQuest, June '99 - Hope, NJ

Friday was a very nice day, very sunny and not too humid. The night that followed was therefore cool and crisp along with being clear and nicely transparent! I used the two scopes pictured at left, my 8" f/6 Dobsonian and 3" f/16 ASTRO refractor. I keep the refractor around for double stars and brighter clusters and nebulae, not to mention also for it's pin-point star images. Dan Pontone made his rounds on Friday night and commented that my 8" showed the Dumbell Nebula the best in any scope he looked through (including his 18" Obsession).

What is a guy to do? I had already looked at the sun and all the scopes around...well I guess I could pose for a picture. Waiting for sunset I find is the most anxious time at a star party. Not much to do but stand around...and keep your fingers crossed it stays/gets clear. My 3" f/16 Refractor is shown at left and my friend Adrian's Meade 2045 SCT at right (also pictured: seated left my father, seated right Adrian's father, Andre Lozinski).

Pictured at left (in order) is Don Odegard, my father and myself. When there is nothing to do, then the only thing to do is find a nice shady spot and 'throw the bull!'

We are quite possibly the next generation of observers who run our astronomy clubs and hold these star parties...oh no! Pictured at left (in order) is my good friend Adrian Lozinski from Long Island, Morgan from S*T*A*R and finally me. There's nothing like having someone your own age to pal around with all weekend...those old guys get boring. =)
